There’s a lot going on for vegans right now, Veganuary being one, and Piers bloody Morgan and sausage roll gate being another.
And as the title of this post, would suggest, I have in fact become vegan as part of Veganuary, so I thought I’d write a little post to talk about all thinks vegan. So here are my thoughts on veganism- 7 days in.
The Food bit
Becoming vegan is a lot to do with the food one eats. Obviously. And in that respect, veganism is going well- my mum is also doing Veganuary and I’m lazy and live at home so she is making a large quantity of my meals. I am aware this is probably considered cheating a bit. As well as this, I live in Brighton where everywhere loves a vegan… So I’m definitely finding it easier than others might.
My highlights of the month so far included a very delightful Purezza pizza, and a very tasty vegan pasta sauce from Nourishing Amelia (I can’t for the life of me find the bloody recipe). All in all, veganism is going swimmingly.
So it’s that easy to make the switch, and doesn’t impact anyone else’s life whatsoever. However, everyone of course has their own opinions anyway…
Irrelevant opinions
So being taken the piss out of for becoming vegan, paired with certain wankers on Twitter ranting about veganism, I was all ready to write my own personal rant about how we vegans just want to be treated with respect! and that it’s not fair that my friends eye-roll at me when I ask for the vegan menu!
I started planing what I was going to write, and went onto Twitter to find some proof that people hate vegans. I typed ‘vegans’ into the search bar, bracing myself for the worst… Turns out that almost every tweet was from users encouraging one another on their vegan journey; sharing recipes; talking about those sweet sweet Greggs vegan sausage rolls. This was when I realised that actually, Twitter doesn’t really hate vegans anymore.
So then I started thinking about my own personal experiences being ‘tormented’ as I asked, “does this have dairy in?” Again, I realised that I was spouting shit, and in reality, my friends don’t give a shite that I have stopped piling nachos and chocolate santas into my gob at any given opportunity. In fact that’s probably a good thing. In addition to this, the waitress at Ask Italian doesn’t give a shite that I want to look at the vegan menu. She’s probably just happy that it will take me less than 25 minutes to choose my main now.
It’s 2019- the year of accepting one another and not really giving a shite of what their eating requirements are (I’ll tone down the ‘shite’ usage now x). Let’s all just love each other and feed each other Greggs vegan sausage rolls in one big mass-cuddle.
Except, we can’t all just accept each other’s eating habits can we Piers Morgan? Which brings me onto the next point…
Greggs Vegan Sausage-roll Gate
It was 3rd January, everyone was buzzing for Greggs newest venture. I was queuing down North street, Brighton outside the doors of my favourite Greggs at 5.46am, eagerly awaiting the bakers to dish out the crispy cruelty-free goodness that were the vegan sausage rolls (this did not happen). It was at this point when Piers Morgan shat on all of our parades and told us that Greggs are ‘PC-ravaged’ blah blah blah, angering me a little.
More tweets were added as the vegan debate was sparked… he detailed his ‘vegan resistance’ by ordering a meat sausage roll from his room service… He argued with Mcdonalds and Pizza Hut over their vegan options. It was getting out of control.
And I just couldn’t wrap my head round it- How is this an issue for him- these companies are literally ADDING things to the menu to expand their customer base. I felt myself getting annoyed by the vegan bashing from him and others who were totally offended by a bloody vegan sausage roll.
And as I scrolled down his Twitter to find the right Tweet to screenshot for this post, I remembered: Piers Morgan is an attention seeker. We all know he’s stating his ‘opinions’ to get a reaction. And we’re the idiots for getting sucked into his drama; reading his articles; scrolling down or obsessing over his Twitter, while we rant about it on our blogs (errr just me then?).
Point is, myself, and many others were getting more and more annoyed as he was getting more and more hits on his Twitter, and his articles. And therefore we were making him more and more money.
So in conclusion, Piers Morgan is a wanker, but he’s the smart one, and the real winner here.
At least he got this much right:
Thanks for reading, and hope you enjoyed hearing about my life. If you haven’t already, try one of those vegan sausage rolls, they’re penggggg (this isn’t even sponsored).

I absolutely love this. I’ve wanted to give veganism a go for a while and although veganuary would have been the perfect time, I’ve been incredibly ill (typical) for the past 2 weeks, so it’ll have to wait a little while.
But I completely agree with you on the Piers Morgan front. I cannot STAND him, it seems he does everything for attention and a reaction, just for fun. I’m glad I’m not the only one he winds up.
Anyway, great post!!

Wow, great post! I love how you write and explain this!
I’m not a vegan myself but I’m trying to reduce meat, fish, etc for the moment!
I don’t understand why it bothers (or bothered) people that some are vegan though?!

It gets easier along the way. I’ve been vegan for 5 years and it’s one of the best decisions I made for myself. Keep going!
