March: Quarantine Resolutions

So things aren’t great at the moment, let’s be honest. We’re all in a weird state of social distancing, isolation from the world, and it’s just really really weird. I am also jobless and broke, after spending all my money travelling and not slipping into a job easily when I got back (as I expected to). Yeahhhhh not great.

However, I have decided to use this time to write away my troubles (along with manically begging for a job at a number of places), and like some others: use the time wisely. Lucky for me, I’m not a big stresser, so I’m going to harness my chilled nature and sort my life out a bit. I wrote some New Years resolutions when I was away, and I’m going to expand on that here.

I should mention that I’m not the best at sticking to resolutions, or ‘life goals’ that I tend to set myself, but as I’ve got a lot of time on my hands, this should be the ideal situation. So here

  1. Travel: I can’t wait to jet off and travel again, but due to a lack of job and relatively closed borders across the world, these plans are currently out the window. I do still plan to travel India (along with a long list of other places I am dying to see), and hope this will happen next year, but I am putting these plans on hold for now and planning will continue in at least a few months time. Over summer, assuming things are looking up corona-wise, I do plan on taking myself on little mini-breaks and doing more solo-travelling to Europe though.
  2. Having all this time, allows me to write freely, finish my book, and finish all the hundreds of bits of writing I have started here and there. Of course in reality I will start around 200 more random pages with 2 sentences and a great concept on, but I think this is what being a writer is all about. I’m super excited to finish some of the posts I’m in the process of writing, about my travelling experiences, and lots of positivity for the future (no mention of the C word… the virus that is, I might use the other C word…).
  3. As I mentioned in the previous post, I would like to write elsewhere: getting my writing published is a big goal of mine, so in my writing over the next few months, I would like to create content for publications, as well as my blog and book. I would also like to write some pieces maybe on LinkedIn, or at least keep that semi up to date.
  4. The oooother thing I am really excited to research and start doing is a podcast! This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, as mentioned in the previous post, and hope to pursue this aim towards the end of the year. I’m going to start researching and get a plan together so when all this craziness blows over, I can gather my group of pals together to create it. It will run alongside my book and will discuss the service industry, bar work, and the craziness that goes on in that sector of the working world.

And to keep some routine in my life, and stop myself from going too crazy, I decided to make myself a little day plan, inspired by this Tweet

I know I’m not discussing that C word anymore, but my rough quarantine plan to keep myself productive and sane, will hopefully allow myself to forget the C word is going on,  and avoid getting cabin fever stuck in a tiny flat with my boyfriend, go crazy, and/or murder him. I plan on getting up relatively early, putting clothes on and ‘going to work’ each morning (to the futon-desk), and not losing a routine. I’m not judging anyone else, but for me personally, sleeping in until 12pm stops me from doing anything productive: I’ll just be a mess all day. In addition to this, I need to leave the flat for at least half an hour or I think I will lose my mind. Luckily I live right next to the beach, so have the luxury of sitting on, or walking along the beach for at least a bit of time each day.

I won’t be doing this exact regime every day, and will mix it up a bit, but routine tends to keep me productive, and stop me from mindlessly scrolling down TikTok.

And hopefully in a few months time, I will have a productive outcome of this crazy time: lots of written content, a book, and maybe even some published written work.

Thanks for reading this, and I hope you’ve found a way of coping during this outbreak!
